I am not a big fan of the Teochew style Bak Kut Teh which is commonly available in Singapore. I prefer the more herbal type of Bak Kut Teh i.e. the Hokkien style - I miss Klang Bak Kut Teh for sure, it has been so long since I last been there *drools
As B is a big fan of Bak Kut Teh, we decided to try out one of the famous Teochew Bak Kut Teh in town which is located at New Bridge Road. The place was definitely packed during our visit.
We were served almost immediately after we placed our orders.
We had the Pork Rib Soup; a clear pork rib broth which was well-accepted by me as it was not excessively peppery and quite balanced in flavor; not too salty or subtly sweet. One down point was the soup was not served hot enough. Nonetheless, the subsequent refill for the soup was served in a just-nice temperature; not too hot till it would burn your tongue. *perception changed
We settled for Pork Tenderloin when one of our first choices, Premium Loin Ribs was sold off. The soup base was the same as the Pork Rib Soup. Pork Tenderloin is definitely a better choice for ladies if image is a concern. The meat was sliced and hence much easier to eat compared to the big pork ribs you have in the Pork Rib Soup. We saw a couple of the ladies who were only drinking soup and left their pork ribs untouched! Geez, what a waste *sighs
We also ordered a Braised Pig’s Trotter to share. The meat was moist and tender yet not too salty. Nice. But really fatty too, look at the skin and its fats!!! We had only the lean meat ;P
To make us feel less sinful, we order a plate of Kai Lan and a pot of Chinese Tea/ Xiang Pian to *fingers-crossed* wash down a bit of the fats from the meal.
I prefer to soak my You Tiao in those Hokkien style BKT, grins.
The Teochew BKT at this place was prepared the way I like, not overly peppery or/and oily. *winks*
